Centennial Alumni Interview Spotlight

Lis Smith '01 Mary Cain '14

As part of its centennial celebration on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, the Bronxville School will feature interviews with two notable alumnae: Lis Smith ’01 and Mary Cain ’14 in the High School Auditorium starting at 11:00 a.m., following school tours sponsored by the Bronxville School Foundation. Registration is required for all events (scroll down for links).

Cain is the founder of Atalanta NYC, a nonprofit that employs professional female runners to serve as mentors for young girls. In exchange for giving back to the local community, the pro runners get to build both their career skills and train full-time. After sharing her story with the world in a 2019 NY Times Op-Ed, Mary has dedicated her career to driving change in sport, with an emphasis on athlete well-being and gender equity. Mary recently began to pursue triathlon training after an elite running career that included becoming 2014 World Junior Champion in the 3000m. Cain will be interviewed by fellow Bronxville alumnus Marlow Stern ’03, senior entertainment editor for The Daily Beast and an adjunct professor at Columbia Journalism School.

Smith is a veteran of 20 political campaigns and the author of “Any Given Tuesday,” published this July. She has extensive experience in public affairs, media relations, and crisis communications at the local, state and national levels. She most recently worked as a senior advisor in communications to presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg. She’s served as an on-air commentator for MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, and CBS and has had opinion pieces published in the New York Times and Vanity Fair. Smith will be interviewed by Bronxville parent Sissel McCarthy, Distinguished Lecturer and director of the Journalism Program at Hunter College.
